sorry, i misread the mail you were replying to (gah.. html email) =/ my bad.

that's not my intention.

ticking off Richard? i think you've got those tables backwards. i asked him a
question, i got an insult in return.

in fact, i answered more of his questions and asked for a clarification of one
question of his i didn't understand, but that was quaintly forgotten so as to
poke me in the eye. yes, i'm OBVIOUSLY trying to piss him off.

i think you are confusing disagreeing with something with being pissed off.
i'm actually quite calm about it. i'm pissed off w/Richard's latest flame
mail, but not about the topic of antivirus software.

on windows, it is indeed a necessity. when we have windows systems around i
make sure that there is a virus protection plan in place...

but we're talking about linux here, and that's a very different topic. people
have worked hard to make sure that linux doesn't suffer from these sorts of
problems, and so far it is paying off nicely. when others come along and ruin
that (as lindows does by running as root) or plant misinformation (as the
antivirus industry does), it is a strike against those efforts.

and that's fine; i agree with everything you just said here. the orginal
question was about using it on Linux desktops, and that was what i responded
to...
