If you want to carry-on electronics, they usually make you turn it on. So, you wouldn't be able to carry a computer on with you unless you plugged it in and turned it on for the security guys to see. A hard drive would be hard to power-on unless it was in a computer. They may not go that far with you but of all the times my friends have tried to carry-on computer equipment they were forced to prove it functions by powering it on first. If they couldn't, they weren't allowed to carry it on (Cargo area is ok though). Cheers, Trevor
