Hi folks, My RedHat 8 system has two startup issues. I haven't been able to figure out what is going on.
1. during the normal cold startup cycle, the startup pauses on sendmail and sm-client for a long time (4+minutes). I'm only using mail for internal accounts on the box and I clear out /var/spool/mail regularly. I'm running the defaul sendmail config that came with RH8 and it used to blast through that startup in seconds. Here's the syslog entries (note the times): May 5 13:45:13 z3 rc: Starting qpage: succeeded May 5 13:49:55 z3 sendmail: sendmail startup succeeded May 5 13:52:15 z3 sendmail: sm-client startup succeeded May 5 13:52:15 z3 gpm: gpm startup succeeded May 5 13:52:16 z3 crond: crond startup succeeded 2. Once booted with login gui ready, the 1st login always fails and the second attempt with the same uid/pw always succeeds.The gui popup message is "Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds,If you have not logged out yourself this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of disc space try logging into failsafe sesseions to se if you can fix the problem. <OK>".
