I use vnc with port forwarding through an ssh tunnel. Works nicely and affords you all the security of ssh. If you want to connect from a windows client then have a look at putty. Otherwise the man pages for ssh can tell you how to go about it on linux.

I would like to remote access a Linux box. I have seen a number of people do it but not sure on what you are using. I am aware of VNC but it does seem to lack security. I have heard of SSL but am unsure of some of the pro's and con's of the various methods.

Would someone be able to enlighten me as to where I should be looking for additional information.
