The Nvidia GigE NIC works but the second "Yukon" GigE NIC does not.
I would stick to a 32bit distro, 3rd party drivers tend to work better, there is better software selection. I also have a cheap compaq desktop kicking around the office that is based around the ATI IXP with an integrated 200m video card. This machine works well as a workstation but do not expect much from the ATI binary drivers for video. The open source radeon driver seems to work ok in 2d. As much as it pains me, there are some smoking deals on the Best Buy web site for refurbed machines exactly like this. Clients of mine have bought a total of 5 of these so far (all 939 pin, 2 are dual core, all were ridiculously cheap), and they seem to be working well.
