I went through the same thing recently. At first I got an Asus A8R-MVP
board with an ATI chipset. While everything seemed to be supported, I
had a bunch of problems like random crashes and freezes. I'm now using a
LanParty UT nF4-D with an nforce 4 chipset. Everything seems to be
supported under linux.
