I think we skirt a dangerous path by limited questions involving Windows in any way. Most Linux users are coming from Windows and if we're in the business of supporting Linux adoption around here, then we have to be ready to entertain all ilks of "How do I do this thing I used to do on Windows in Linux" questions. Further, many businesses are throwing out their expensive MS server software and moving to Linux. In fact, starting Monday I will be working with a company that supplies Linux servers to small businesses. In many of these organizations, the end-users still use Windows clients to attach to the Linux server to avail themselves of services like Samba shares and email. Therefore, connectivity problems between the Windows client and Linux server are also fair game in my opinion. I think *that* should be the rule of thumb - if answering the question supports the adoption or use of Linux, then it's fair game on Tech.
