I can't say I can recommend a distro (there isn't one I particularly like,) however if you find yourself having to reinstall often because you made a mistake, there are things you can do before hand to avoid re-installation. In essence, you create a snapshot of all your config and important system files before doing something dangerous (or just every night, for good measure) and keep it in a safe place. Then if things go awry, you can always boot to a live-cd, and copy the files back. If this seems like too much work, well, you probably don't need to worry about it; but one day you may find yourself wishing you had been doing it all along. An easy way to do start on this path is to use separate filesystems for /, /home, /usr, /tmp, and /var. If this is beyond your current level of Linux knowledge, well, don't worry about it for now. It's not absolutely necessary, just useful. -Mark C. _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
