I dont want to ruin your day, but is there a slight possibility that the combo drive just does not read audio cds ?? It seems that it does not read audio disks , check the specks for the drive... I am running a mandriva 2007 and 2008 and both would play and grab audio disks by default install ... Also check the specks and see that the drive supports row read in this case... Cheers Szemir
Ps.: Plug a usb drive (cd) in and see if it plays audio on that, that will directly point to your drive not being able to read audio disks .. (you can use an external usb enclosure, plug a cd drive onto that and see it it works ...
