After upgrading my m/b in early summer I had to go with a kernel _newer_ than 2.6.22 in order to get the SATA HDD fully recognized and usable. These kernels are available in Debian Lenny (the upcoming stable release) and (k)ubuntu Hardy which recognized SATA drives without a hitch. From there on I went full steam ahead with Debian Lenny.
