I feel your pain.  Despite your problems, I've still found this much
easier to do than trying to do the same thing in Windows XP (HAL
errors! ARG!)

Nowadays, I view a new mobo as a fresh start, a time to clean my
system from stale apps and garbage cluttering various directories.  Of
course, I'm not running a production system, either.
