I am from massachusetts and our facility is required to do those plus an
elopement assessment,A.I.M's/DISCUS and a safe smoking assessment( only if
they are applicable)
We just had our state survey (they were here for 5 days) We got picked up
on not noticing sig changes, and few accuracy issues on coding MDS. They
also diddnt care for the PRE PRINTED careplans, thought "they wernt
individulaized enough". So, much work to be done by staff development and
myself.

Subject: Assessments

I just read an article in one of the PPS magazines written by Stephen [I
forget his last name]who works for a company from Massachusetts but he
speaks at national forums. He is well versed in the MDS.He spoke about
approx. 100 homes around the country who don't do all these extra
assessments but use the MDS as their tool.I thought it was so interesting
that he gave me the name of one of these homes. My DON will get in touch with
them I hope.I have long thought that we are doing too much paper work.At our
facility we do all these admission, and quarterly assessments, that are
really a duplication of the MDS.Are you all doing multiple assessments in
addition to the MDS.WE DO ON ADMIT AN
ORAL,FALL,SKIN,DEHYDRATION,SIDERAIL,PAIN,BOWEL AND BLADDER.I think we could
write our assessment policies based on answers in the MDS and a few other
factors.
