Regulations are very clear that the RAI must be followed. See F-tag #272. What is NOT clear is Who has to do it. Regulations do not require that an AT has to complete the activities section. The facility must ensure that accurate assessments are completed within regulatory timeframes. Your co-workers are straining under their work loads and probably don't see the MDS as their responsibility. It is up to administration to make clear who has the MDS responsibility, there should be policies and procedures about MDS completion. The RAI manual is THE source document for MDS completion. If your residents are very stable and have very little fluctuation in their activity attendance, preferences, etc, would your AT be willing to write a note in the record that states that the resident's activities remained the same for the ARD as listed on the previous 30 day activites assessment? The dietitian also needs to be within regulatory guidelines with his/her documentation. It sounds like a serious discussion with administration needs to be held. How are you completing the MDS now without their documentation? If you complete the MDS for them they are not feeling the weight of their responsibilty. Very tough position to be in, it is so nice when everyone cooperates and accepts responsibility for the work that needs done. Sounds like you could use a facility-wide performance improvement team.

Subject: Problem with Activities section
Rena, or anyone with knowledge about section N:
We are having a hard time with the activities department completing the MDS timely. They completely disregard the ARD. The AD said she didn't care about the ARD, that it
doesn't mean a damn thing to her. They have to do a 30 day assessment. Now, I know the RAI manual says 7 day look back for all of section N. She has the LTC calendar with the ARD of January 26 already completed and is now wanting the new (Feb) calendar. As a matter of fact, dietary also works ahead. If we don't give it to her, she goes to the powers that be and complains. So we end up giving in. If I can get in writing that she has to follow the ARD like every other department, maybe it will do some good. Thank you in advance!
