Per the SNF open door forum held on January 20, which I listened to in its entirety:
What I heard is, the SNF ABN does not have to be implemented until 10/1/2004 or the date may change. BUT if you do not use it at this time you are not protected under the limits of liability provisions of the Medicare regulations. They indicated that they would be sending the statement the read out- but I have not seen it to date and it has not been posted in the CMS open door forum website yet either. So that can be interpreted in what ever way you would like, but you could be financially liable effective now if you do not use it. Theresa Lang Specialized Medical Services, Inc.
