In our facility, we have as many as 53 MDS's
due in a single week. We have been, for years, completing the MDS and
RAP's on the ARD, with brief follow-up the next morning to insure nothing was
missed. I lock all the assessments for transmission and have also
developed my own system of colored highlighters to indicate what is done.
With three departments, and some weeks as many as 7 nurses completing the
assessments, it was either that or drown. I have a master resident list
with ARD's that are done three months at a time, and since our state (ND) uses
the MDS for payment for all private pay and Medicaid residents, I track those as
well. This is on a spreadsheet, along with Medicare PPS schedules. No
wonder I'm tired.
