You may do a Discharge return anticipated if you expected them back. The expectation of return is not something that someone else can decide. I always suggest that you do a Discharge return not anticipated if they are gone more than 14 days. It is not a regulatory requirement (in most states), but keeps things simpler.

Subject: discharge tracking form

Hi

A patient was admitted to the facility on 1/21 and transferred to the hospital on 2/6.She was not eligible for bed hold(not in facility 30 days).Would you code have discharge -return not anticipated?

The patient was admitted back to the facility 3/2

Thanks
