Actually, the requirement for maintaining 15 months worth of MDS is not dependent on the discharge status.  Any resident that has been in your faciltiy and returns, regardless of discharge status, should have 15 months worth, if applicable, maintained in the clinical record.

 

For the two residents below, the 15-month policy does apply.

I would not pull 15 months of MDS's forward.  Both situations are discharges without expected returns.  So if the residents return, they are considered a new admit and would start out with a new chart. 

As a side note - if the resident was noncompliant with your tx plan and left AMA, why'd you guys take him back?------------------------Mike

The other scenario, if the resident is discharged without expected return and is readmitted within a month does the 15 months MDS regulation apply.  I read page 1-27 & 28 of the August 2003 revision but this scenario is not addressed.  Thanks you your response
