Is it only section AA, AB & AC that has to be kept in the active chart or the whole MDS records?

Based on the responses, we must bring 15 months of MDS's forward no matter what the d/c status was, so does that mean that the other assessments (like social history from social services, or activities, or dietaty assessments) can also be brought forward from one admit (not readmit) to the next?

Actually, the requirement for maintaining 15 months worth of MDS is not dependent on the discharge status.  Any resident that has been in your faciltiy and returns, regardless of discharge status, should have 15 months worth, if applicable, maintained in the clinical record.

 

For the two residents below, the 15-month policy does apply.

I would not pull 15 months of MDS's forward.  Both situations are discharges without expected returns.  So if the residents return, they are considered a new admit and would start out with a new chart. 

As a side note - if the resident was noncompliant with your tx plan and left AMA, why'd you guys take him back?------------------------Mike

Need an answer quick if you please.  If a resident leaves AMA, and  resident returned 10 days later, does the 15 months policy for copying the MDS apply? The other scenario, if the resident is discharged without expected return and is readmitted within a month does the 15 months MDS regulation apply.  I read page 1-27 & 28 of the August 2003 revision but this scenario is not addressed.  Thanks you your response
