I've been reading all the posts concerning memory loss, and my
personal experience is I didn't have it until Gleevec. I've been one
who has always lived with moderate to severe stress pretty much all my
life and it never affected my memory. My husband, children, other
family members all notice that I am just not who I used to be before
Gleevec. Parts of my life are like a book now, one that I've read
before, maybe even more than once but I can't remember all the
details. I'm 43 years old and I just don't feel it's my time, nor am I
at the age where I should be this forgetful. I've always been a very
organized person...didn't have to write myself notes... but do now...I
could remember telephone numbers, birth dates, considered myself an
excellent speller...now I have to resort to the dictionary to get it
right, most times I'm so frustrated I just spell it the best I can and
to heck with it. I can't count the times I've left the stove on and I
was always cautious with this, especially after my son caught our
kitchen on fire. When I'm typing, certain words, for example...when I
want to type the word "just"...I end up typing "such". I've done that
several times...and there are other words I confuse. It's weird. As
for cooking meals and having 3 or 4 things cooking at once...just
can't do it anymore. I can start to do something...say for instance,
I'm mopping my kitchen floor...before I can get it completed...I've
jumped off on something else. When I'm driving, sometimes I'll ask
myself, did I stop at that stop sign...hope I did.
It really frustrates me at times, and I can sense the frustration in
my family too. But I know if I want to stay alive, I've got to take
the Gleevec and I've got to accept the bad that goes with it to get
the good that comes out of it. If it's not the Gleevec...it must be
the CML itself. Just sharing my experience for others...Love, Peace,
Hope & Prayers for All, Pat
