Livia,

First you need to find out from your doctor if you have iron deficiency anemia or chemotherapy related anemia.  I suspect it's the latter.  In which case you'll probably need procrit shots which is what I take.  I also take 3 iron pills a day but supplements and nutrition will not make up for the anemia caused by Gleevec (IM).

Sorry about that.

Subject: [CML] I am anemic

Hi,

My doctor called me yesterday, that I am anemic and I should get some injections to not be so tired.  I realized that I couldn’t run and work out for the last 3 days, but I did not know what is the cause, I just prefer to not THINK about it. : )

I think it is pretty common to be anemic while taking Gleevec but I would like to improve it by food or another supplements, NOT injections.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Livia

Dx 02/05

600 mg Gleevec
