Sandy,

You do have it wrong. For most people Gleevec, while not curative, is a giant leap from the stone ages. It gives us a genuine hope to live a normal life for many more years to come. There are side effects which go away for most people and there are a small number of people who develop a resistance to Gleevec. But Gleevec's success has prompted an explosion of studies that are producing even better medicines for CML which will be available soon. A really big issue is that your husband should have a CML specialist treating his case! I cannot over state the importance of having a doctor who is up to date on this rapidly advancing science. You have done a very good thing in joining this group. We have a lot of experts and sound thinkers who are happy to lend their advice. Hang in there with your husband.

Prayers and best wishes,

Hi my name is Sandy. My husband was DX with CML in aug. of this year.He is taking 400mg of gleevec a day.My question to anyone taking gleevec,I have read about this drug and it is my understanding that it will only keep you in the cronic stage for about two years.Than it goes from cronic to aml.Is this true or am I missinformed?I know there is not alot of information on this drugs long term use yet,and it is frustrating at times.Any response is welcome.
