Firebug, it was my experience that I was put on hydrea when first diagnosed. I took this for maybe 3 weeks, only until I could get some assistance getting the Gleevec. My WBC was normal within a few days or 1 week of taking the hydrea. Has your father been told about Gleevec yet? Was he seen by a general oncologist who treats all kinds of cancer? He needs a CML specilaist, a hemotogolist. Hang in there and ask all the questions you want...someone here will know the answer or where to advise you to go to get an answer.
