Hydrea is an older treatment method that is sometimes used to get counts stable. He will probably be put on Gleevec shortly.

Subject: [CML] New to this group, have questions.

Hi Everyone-
My dad was recently diagnosed with CML about 2 weeks ago (he's 69).  I
have some basic knowledge about CML (and and finding more as days go
on).  While in the hospital, the doctor started him on Hydrea, which
he took for about a week.  At his followup visit after the week, the
doctor said his blood count was back to normal, and took him off the
hydrea (until his next visit, about a week from now).   Is it possible
that the Hydrea worked that quickly ?  Is it normal for the treatment
to be so short ?  I am totally confused now.  I'm getting
the "reports" through my mom, who, unfortunately, doesn't always
understand what's going on. Any help you can provide would be greatly
appreciated !
