Greenie: When I had the second serious eye bleed.....my husband told me to call my CML doctor.......I did and talked with her nurse practitioner. I told her that it could be from the Gleevec and she was a little surprised by this.......she discussed it with Dr. Cashen and called me back telling me to go to the eye doctor right then. I did and long story short......nothing they said that caused them pertained to me....so, I showed him the paper work that I had received from Novartis on Gleevec and the "rare" side effects listed for the eye. He wrote it all down in my chart and sent me on my way. About a week later I saw my CML doctor after having the third very bad eye bleed....so she actually got to see it. I had also made sure I copied each paper (five pages) from Novartis about the Gleevec and had underlined the part pertaining to the eyes. She was glad that I had brought that in because she said didn't receive anything like this and it was very helpful. I felt like telling her that she ought to get on line to a lot of these groups and such....she could learn a lot! (LOL!) Anyway, she did say to call if I had another one & she would send me to an ophthalmologist that they use as I might have a blood vessel in the eye that needed tending to. I tell you all of this because, I've learned one thing throughout my journey with CML & Gleevec......I quit listening to the doctors when they say it can't be the Gleevec......I had the evidence stating otherwise. There have been times when I, too, have had the dizzy spells.....it isn't much fun, either. My guess is that it is the medicine when you've been checked out thoroughly by doctors and there is no other cause found such as with my eye bleeds.
If you would like for me to email you a copy of the "rare" side effects from Gleevec, I can. I think it's contained all on the back page, so wouldn't have to send the whole five pages.
