Hi Greenie:

I get spells just like you describe and I take Klonopin for it. I
actually went to a psychiatrist and he diagnosed me with depression/
anxiety disorder. The panic attacks tend to get worse as time goes on.
I am prescribed Klonopin 3x a day but they make me really tired so I
try to cut down on the dose when I'm feeling good and I am also afraid
of addiction - so I try to skip whenever I can. Anxiety is listed as a
common side effect in the literature I have on the Gleevec from my onc/
novartis. I have had panic attacks in the past and I assumed the
resumption of these attacks was due to several situational issues (my
dad dying of cancer and my subsequent diagnosis), but, they didn't go
away - hence, the Klonopin which is long-acting (you head the attacks
off at the pass rather than waiting for one to occur and then taking
the medication) compared to your Xanax which is quick acting and wears
off quicker (both drugs work well although I was told that Klonopin is
less addicting = true? don't know). Nothing sucks more than a panic
attack.

Also, I have a friend who is in her 60s, fairly good health, who
cannot tolerate the heat at all due to heat exhaustion/stroke in the
distant past. So, yes, your inability to tolerate the heat is most
likely due to your past history.

Don't know if this will help at all but thought I would let you know
you are not alone. I did not experience panic attacks the whole time I
was helping care for my dad and watching him die (painfully). They
started up after I started the Gleevec, BUT, I could have been
terrified that I was going to die like my dad did which helped the
process along. Don't know, can only speculate.

Take care!
Kelly
