Hi Marty and will do; it's funny they bother me the most at night when I
haven't eaten or drunk anything.
I make it a habit not to ear or drink anything a couple of hours before
bedtime.
Thanks

Hi again Jeanie,

So why not have that cup of coffee in the morning, just try to make it
decaffinated. Maybe you might want to try it for several days and then see if
you stop getting those skipped heart beats. If they stop or get better then
you will know for sure that is what's causing them.

Just a suggestion maybe worth while.

Hi Marty and yes, I have been thinking about getting off caffeine but my
one cup in the morning is my wake up call. I also have a cup of tea at noon.
I don't drink sodas or anything else with caffeine, but do enjoy an
occasional piece of dark chocolate. I think I will see a card soon. My
doctor
does the EKGs and etc. but all he said was I had a skipped heartbeat.
My mom had to have a pace maker in her 70s so it could run in the family.
Blessings and thanks,

Hi Jeanie,

Having even one cup of caffeinated coffee can trigger the PVC's, and if
that is what you have you don't really have to worry about them. However, I
would still speak with your cardiologist about this. That is if you even
have them. The first sign that I had them was way back while I was attending a
lecture about electro magnetic fields, and had a strong cup of coffee so
that I could stay wide awake. Unfortunately, I became so frightened that I
had to leave and check myself into the nearest hospital. They ran tests and
came up with that I was having PVC's and I have had them ever since.

I recently finished up with a six week course of stem cell therapy and
that is really when those PVC's became really bad. Since finishing the therapy
those PVC's have settled down again.

Remember anything that contains even a small amount of Caffeine can set
them off, not just coffee.

I wish you health and happiness.

18's (Life) and may you be blessed by GOD

You do know that what your doing here is helping a lot of people.

Hi Marty, I do drink a cup of coffee in the morning but that is all. It
is so strange; I feel the heartbeat all the time but don't really notice it

are talking about? Is there anything they can do about it? I just got back
off a cruise and I didn't feel the beat at all because of the ships
movement. funny
I will check it out.
I also like to sprinkle cayenne pepper on my food.
Thanks again,

Hi Jeanie,

Well at lease those chills aren'r bothering you now. As far as the skipped
beat I still think it is those PVC Premature Ventricular Contractions.
Maybe you might want to try something and see what happens. Remember that
PVC's are usually benign so it wouldn't hurt you to try drinking about two or
even three cups of coffee (caffinated) and then see if those missed heart
beats come on after about fifteen or twenty minutes. If they do then that is
probably your problem. Sometimes if it is not happening when you get the
EKG then of course it won't show up.

If not then go see a Cardiologist and let him/her check you out, but I
still think it is those PVC's. This also happens to me as well and sometimes I
just can't sleep because of it.

Good luck,

Marty

Hi Marty and thanks,
My doctor said I my heart skips a beat and he has given me EKGs and can
find nothing really wrong. I only drink a small cup of coffee at BK and no
other caffeine during the day. I don't have the chills anymore, just when I
first started on Gleevec.
This heart pounding is terrible as it keeps me awake at night.
My doctor says it could be stress, and I guess any cancer patient has a
fair amount of stress.
Thanks for your encouraging words.
Blessings,

Hi Jeanie,

I'm sorry to hear about those chills that you have been getting. I would
also get them but I wasn't on any of the drugs just a bone marrow
transplant. Even today I still get the chills and I live in South Florida.

You also mention about the heart pounding in your chest. I also have this
and I found out that it is called PVC, and by me cutting back on anything
containing Caffeine really helps me. If you drink coffee of any sodas with
Caffeine in them then just stop drinking them. Also if you like chocolate
then you need to cut back on it as well.

Jeanie I hope that you start feeling better, and may you be continually be
blessed by GOD

Marty

Hi Angie, I had a lot of the chills and fever when I was first dx. I
would just take some pain reliever and fever reduces and try to get through
them. Those first few weeks were a nightmare for sure.
Now on Sprycel, I get really hot; my face turns beet red and it's hard to
get cooled down. It happens a lot when I am on the computer.
I can also feel my heart pounding in my chest all the time. This has
been with me even before I was dx in 2004. It has never gone away and keeps
me awake at night.

Your mention of deep freeze chills really caught my eye.
I had 3 episodes of that before my diagnosis (I was diagnosed with CML in
2000). I would shake with cold, and my skin HURT as though I was trapped
in a deep freeze. Neither hot tea, nor blankets could get me warm.
I told my family doctor and he considered my age (52-53) and said it was
the reverse of hot flashes! Sometimes I would get steaming hot, and
sometimes freezing cold. I sure wonder where he dreamed up THAT theory from! A
few
months later I was diagnosed with CML. Funny, I have not heard anyone
mention those deep painful chills before. I haven't had such an episode in 8
years now.

Hi Jeanie:

Good to hear from you. Ya, I notice that the symptoms come and go.
Thank the Lord for that. I remember how that in the beginning, I had
those deep freeze type chills.......not any more. That was probably
during the first six to eight months.
