Subject: Multisite CMSs

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone new of a PHP or Ruby on Rails (preferably
open source) cms that has multi-site capabilities.

To clarify, what I am looking for is the ability for a user to manage
multiple sites, on multiple domains from within a single cms install.
Ideally, the cms would have the ability to restrict users so they
could only edit particular sites.

I've looked at a number of different systems (Radiant, Frog, Drupal,
Silverstripe, CMS Made Simple) but none of them really manage to pull
this off (yet).

We do have SilverStripe multi-site code in subversion that has been successfully used in commercial situations. I and other core team members, and many people in the community are very keen to see it rounded out (it needs a few some code to simplify multi-site setup, and more documentation) so if you are keen to pitch in we would be very happy to support you. In other words, some of the setup requires manually setting some data via phpmyadmin rather than our typical automatic setup. The code works well once all setup, and allows a super-admin to create new sites, set up differences (e.g. theme/colour/ logo), choose a URL. It has also been setup in a way that lets you share content from one site to another, so if you wanted to duplicate sites and their content to begin with, that is supported currently.

I am happy to send you some screenshots showing you where we're currently at if you're not aware.

Sigurd, SilverStripe
