Sounds like it's caught on something inside if you can't pull it out. Do you have any screws sticking into the mast, like a sheetmetal screw holding a steaming light? I'd remove anything suspect. I'd try to catch it using another halyard and try and drag it toward the top of the mast. Maybe position the mast so the broken halyard is on the bottom of the mast, tie a bicycle chain to another halyard and drag that up the mast and try and snag it. Chuck S
