| Hmmm. I just dropped my shades at my slip a week ago. Please tell me about these borescopes- $ and source? BTW my new main halyard a year or so ago was $400 on my 30’. Janet Schilling Sent from my iPhone Hey Mike,
It’s possible that your little used port spin Halyard was crossed inside the mast by another Halyard that was going up and down frequently and sawed through the little used one. Check your other Halyards and you might find that they’re just fine.

Just ordered a Borescope from amazon. $50 for 32 ft
Checked on mast today. Yes the cap is welded in place. Access points are halyard exists, steaming light, vhf wire exit and of course mast base
Is arriving Saturday. May be interesting
The sad part is that this was our seldom used port side spin halyard. If it parted then our oft used port halyard will also need replacing. Last time I replaced a spin sheet it was $300 just for the line
and the splice. Halyard is longer and prices have gone up. $$$
Gotta love boats!

I wonder if the halyard is still a little pregnant there from the splice - maybe caused the jam. They make borescopes pretty affordable now, only a half inch diameter,
and pretty long and they plug right into your phone-=we used one to look

for the money.

Is the halyard jammed by the sheave? Would removing the sheave free things up??

Mike, can you tell where inside the mast the jam is located? On my mast, (1985 vintage) the top plate is bolted on and can be removed;
if it s way down inside the mast, then possibly remove the steaming light and see if you can access it from there? Good luck!

At the end of the season our starboard spinnaker halyard parted 15 inches from the snap shackle. At the time the
halyard would not pull down through the mast.
After unstepping the mast for the season I tried playing with the other spin and jib halyards to see if this could
nudge it loose. It did not.
The halyard is still just shy of full hoist and jammed inside the mast. The other spin halyard and the jib and
main halyards seem to be running freely
Any thoughts on how I can retrieve this halyard from the mast?
This is a standard white painted aluminum mast from the mid eighties. Think C&C 33-2 mast
Thanks in advance
