I initially bought a 2 blade max prop for my 39, but it had a lot of
Chop-Chop at certain speeds and not as smooth as I would have liked.
Then I went to a 3 Blade Gori, using the recommended dimensions and
Pitch. I believe it was 16.5 inches X 13 Pitch. It is a beautiful piece
of engineering, I had it on my coffee table all winter, flipping it back
and forth.
When I initially tried it out, it didn't quite to full rpm, I sent it
back to AB and had it back from (Denmark, I think) in less then 10 days.
They took a half inch off, and it was perfect.
Only two caveats about it, the 'Overdrive' - I think they discovered
when they first tried this prop out, is that if you go quickly from
reverse to forward the prop wouldn't flip into forward, and had a higher
pitch, so they 'Called It' overdrive, like maybe they intended it. I did
use it a couple times motorsailing, but for the most part I found it
annoying, as I usually had to check my RPM;s and speed to make sure it
wasn't in 'Overdrive'.
The other thing, they have these 3 little urethane bumpers to soften the
slap when the blades snap from forward to reverse, which work fine, but
they use a cheap urethane that has to be replaced very often, and they
are very proud of those.
I actually tried unsuccessfully to make a mold and make my own bumpers,
but didn't get very far.
All in all, I think it is a great prop.

I found the distributors quite helpful in making recommendations.
They all sent detailed quotes the last time I bought a prop. I
believe I spoke with Flex-o-fold, MaxProp and Gori. I wound up with a
3 blade Gori for our 30-2 and am quite happy with it. The lack of
prop walk in reverse is outstanding and the “overdrive gear” that you
can get by keeping the blades reversed does make a noticeable
difference in the speed vs. RPM.

Consider flex-o-fold geared prop. Great in reverse as well as
fwd. The flex-o-fold people will help you with sizing

I can’t comment to your specific application, but I have used a
Maxi Prop on my previous C&C 34 and now on my C&C 34+. The 34 had
a 2 blade and my current 34+ has a 3 blade. Worked flawlessly and
I was and continue to be very pleased

A previous folding prop was terrible in reverse.
Selection, sizing, and pitch (adjustable) was provided by the
manufacturer.
I would highly recommend.

Hi,
I have an 83 LF38 with a fixed 2-blade 16” diameter with 13”
pitch. I am thinking of getting a feathering prop. I have a
Westerbeke 27 with a Hurth HBW-150 VDrive 2:1.1 that is rated at
30hp at 3000 RPM.
I was wondering if I should maintain a 16” diameter or reduce to
a 15” so I searched at the recommendation says reduce to 15”. It
got me curious to know what some of you have done having bought
feathering / folding props.
Also, would the engine stall trying to put it in forward or
reverse if the prop was too big assuming it had clearances.
