Mac and Windows were originally meant for home and office use. To compete with Windows on home use area you have to give the user equivalent multimedia/browsing facilities packed with step-by-step internet helper apps. Not to mention basic word processing, easy email client, etc... and consistency on desktop graphic user interface.
