Hi.

Last week Jason inquired about how one would go about upgrading a
Classic or Classic II mobo for something a little faster. Marshall
posted a very handy url which, like other upgrade sites walk you through
the work and parts needed. Like other sites the monitor is replaced.
I can understand the benefits of swapping the monitor out for a vga, I
guess if I had one I'd give it a go. Sadly, they seem a bit hard to come
by locally.

I would like to try the board from a LC in a Classic using the original
9" monochrome display. Knowing very little about how monitors work I
dont know if this is a stupid idea doomed to failure before it starts
due to a hardware limitation of the original monitor. (A simple yes will
do.)

Below is the video specs from manuals, not knowing the difference
between monochrome displays and whether the term "bit-mapped" plays a
very important or not, I'm hopeful it can work. The specs for the 475,
ect, are the same as the LC with a few more options.

--------------------------------
Video Display
Classic II/Per 200: Monophonic, 8-bit digital/analog conversion using
22-kHz sampling rate; capable of driving stereo headphones or other
stereo equipment through the sound jack
9-in. (diagonal) screen; high-resolution, 512 by 342 pixel, bit-mapped,
monochrome display

Video LC and LC II provide built-in support for many monitors, including
. Apple High-Resolution Monochrome Monitor
. AppleColor High-Resolution RGB Monitor
. Macintosh 12-Inch RGB Display
. Macintosh 12-Inch Monochrome Display
. Macintosh Color Display
. Apple Basic Color Monitor
