Well, more like the Herringbone disease (item 4 of Hamada's page, which is at <http://www.se30.ch/index.shtml> ??? ) Anyhow, I quote my paper copy rather freely: Symptoms: Monitor is wavy and shows herringbone rasters (vertical zig-zag) on startup. Diagnosis: Very likelly the Flyback transformer, item T2 on the analog board. =46irst, I'd check for loose solder joints over there. Hamada's page talks about getting a new transformer. Desoldering a flyback is deep sh*t. Well, at least knee-deep. They also say which versions to get and to avoid.>> Dank U wel, Mart, but it's not a herringbone pattern at all, and is not wavy either. <<Subject: Re: SE/30 problem From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Robert Patterson) Date: Thu, 1 Aug 2002 17:49:12 -0400 (EDT) Saul, I have three SE/30's, and periodically, they all exhibit the symptoms you describe. Before you do any kind of "major surgery", try what I do... You will have to remove the motherboard (instructions are in various places on the web), and then with an alcohol-moistened Q-tip (or several, actually), clean the board carefully around all the components, especially the small capacitors. I think you will discover that there is a sticky, dust-covered leakage in various places, and it is my impression that it sets up a "capacitance-effect" on the board which causes the symptoms we see so often. I find it interesting that I have only had to do this on my SE/30's (several times!), and yet I've never had to do anything like it on 512's, Plus'es, or standard SE's. Must be a by-product of all the sheer POWER the SE/30 has! :-)>>> Thanks, Rob....I'll sure give this a try, too. As I said, I won't have time to deal with it for a little while, but will certainly report back if I have anything of interest to report. Yes, I've been hearing that the SE/30 is the "touchiest" of the compacts With all the great suggestions from this list, I don't doubt that it'll be up and running someday.
