I remember mine as being black inside. The case color
was always a problem. It reacts to various stimuli. I
had a white residue on the back of mine. I used diluted
dish washing detergent on it but it never really got
clean. It wasn't a major spot so I didn't worry so much
about it. I would advise against taking any major steps
to correct the current problem. Striping the inside of
the case could create even more problems and on and on
