I just formatted a 250 MB Quantum ProDrive LPS, for use in an external "Mac Bottom" case. This is being used with a stock 1986 Plus with the second ROM version. I used HDSC Setup from the 6.0.8 Utilities 1 disk, then installed 6.0.8 on the drive.
When I booted from it, The drive icon appeared on the desktop, followed by the root window. A few seconds later, five more icons appeared with five more windows, each window positioned precisely over the previous one. I selected the additional icons and dropped them the in the Trash, whereupon they and the additional windows vanished like disk images would. This happened again, the next time I booted from the drive. I thought it was an odd coincidence that the number of additional icons was equal to the SCSI ID on the clicker, so I shut down, set it to "0" and rebooted. This time I got just one drive icon on the desktop. This will work fine as long as I leave the ID set to "0", but I would like to know why this is happening in case I really need to set it to a higher number some day. I'm also curious to know what these icon/alias/images are. Are they like disk images and using up memory? Any ideas would be appreciated.
