Go back to square one.
Did you use a formatter that lets you set the interleave to 3:1 ?

----
No. I had good luck using the 6.0.8 HDSC Setup formatter for these
drives in the past, so I played it dumb and formatted it from the
Utilities 1 disk. I can use Lido and do it again if it will stop the
ghost disks from appearing.

That Plus may not be able to keep up with the default 1:1 interleave
that most Disk Initializers use.
Other than that, try fooling with the terminating cap on the external
drive's second connector. What happens when it's present.....what
happens when it's not....

I left the termination resistors on the drive. With an external
terminator, the drive won't be seen with or without the reistors. I
haven't tried it without the resistors since it was nuked and paved
though.

How different do things get when the SCSI cable is in the upper plug
versus the lower plug.....

The SCSI cable is wired in to the MacBottom case. It's kind of a cheap
setup, so there is only one SCSI outlet. It originally came with a 20 MB
Rodime hard drive.
