Yup.  Actually, IPA is a pretty good paint softener/remover too. I've 
used it for removing spraypaint from plastic cabinets where I figured 
paint stripper might attack the plastic (which is why I don't keep 
acetone in the workshop). Also use it (or methanol) for cleaning VCR 
heads and tape heads, mainly because it dries quickly.  Mineral 
solvent is great for softening stickers prior to peeling them off, 
including old floppy disk labels. Just dab it on, wait a few minutes, 
and peel the label off.  I've never damaged any plastic with mineral 
spirits (not counting Varsol, which is a vicious unHoly mixture from 
outer space), although I can't say the same for my lungs and 
sinuses...
