It is very easy to upgrade the memory in a SE/30. The motherboard comes out
easily, just be careful of the speaker wire and connector pins. Remember
that there are two memory banks and that all SIMMs in each bank need to be
matched. Also if you want 32bit memory addressing, you will need a clean
romm or mode32. I have one of mine hooked up to a 17inch color monitor and
it looks great.

Actually with the SE/30 there is no need to discharge the tube. Most models
have a
self-discharging CRT. Discharging the tube only applies to the earlier
macs, Plus,
512k and 128k.

As far as adding more RAM, make sure you ground yourself every time before
touching
anything on the motherboard. It's easy to disconnect the motherboard from
the
machine (which you will need to do to add more RAM). I have 8mb now but may
upgrade
that to 32mb. Though, why would I need to? I don't run FreeBSD, I run
7.1.1.
