Seems odd to me that the various FAQs ignore the hard drive issue; I've
been told swapping it is not easy but have not found any "how to swap the
hard drive" instructions for a Color Classic.


Dead easy - case off, remove data and power cables to HD, and lift the catch on the plastic sled while tilting the whole Mac backwards to let gravity help. No need to disassemble, apart from removing the case bucket.
