I know what you mean, it is getting harder and harder to stay connected
with ISPs changing and requiring additional functions to stay ahead of
spammers (who incidently never have a problem sending emails), my solution
is that all my classic computers connect to a Linux box here which does all
the fiddly bits for me when required and I can stick to using Eudora
whatever ISP I use. Coincidently I had to develop an SMTP proxy for my day
job which sat in between a standard SMTP client that couldn't do auth and
'injects' the additional AUTH command to the SMTP server, I'm sure this
could be ported to run directly on the mac itself but my classic Mac
programming knowledge is very little at the moment.

Regard Sean.
