As list-nanny, my take is that this thread may be off-topic for this list, but given that it's clearly Mac-related and that we're not inundated with other threads at the moment, I'm happy to let it run as long as discussion doesn't turn into flaming, and as long as the discussion is on Macs at least as much as on other platforms.
