The reason why Apple's SCSI Formatting utility isn't recognising your drive is because Apple didn't want people putting any old harddrives into their machine. There's a patch to the SCSI utility which will allow it to recognise any harddrive. There also is a disk image which is essentially a 7.0.1 boot disk with a pre-patched SCSI utility out there. If I find it again, I'll pass the link on.
