So my conclusion is that I also need to do something about white. Easy would
be to enable dynamic komi also for the player who is behind. But it feels
wrong to do so. Perhaps a quickly shrinking linear komi for white makes it
play steady in the opening and then later it can play in full desperation
mode.

Would it be possible to have white "expect" an opponent that uses
dynamic komi (even if it doesn't use it itself)?

If I understand your question correctly I think it is impossible. The dynamic komi has to be used in the search tree to evaluate all nodes of both black and white. So you do it or do not.

However one could make two searches in parallel. One with dynamic komi and one without, but what does one do next? Flip a coin? It is probably more efficent to empirically find out which method is the best and then concentrate all search on it.

In that case, I think it would be interesting to know what the results
would be even for this case and also for "expect dynamic-komi opponent
but get a normal one".
