I got a Compaq Presario 700 laptop really cheap as an internet surfer I could carry around and not worry too much about it getting stolen or damaged. It has a couple problems.
First, I know it's not going to be as fast as my dual core desktop, but how slow is normal? It'll take 2-3 minutes to load an image. Sometimes it'll take nearly 5 minutes to change folders. It can make me wait around 10 minutes to move a small file. Second, I don't think the CD/DVD drive works. It spins up quickly, I guess to max drive speed because I can really hear the motor going. But then it decides there isn't a disc in there. I tried to burn a CD with some music that was on it and it recognised a disc, but it said it wasn't formatted correctly and I should format the disc. I did and then it no longer recognised the disc. I got the QuickRestore discs that came with it as well, and I was going to use them to start fresh, but since the drive won't read them, I can't. Could it be a driver issue that I can fix to use the QuickRestore or am I going to have to do something else? It doesn't have USB 2.0 so I'm not sure how well an external CD drive would work.
