Meg, Which device did you delete/re-install? It sounds ( :-) ) like it may be a codec that has become corrupted. You can get codec packs (for both audio and video) which most likely would resolve your problem. Example downloads: 1) http://www.xpcodecpack.com/dl/XP-Codec-Pack-2.5.1.exe (audio and video codecs) 2) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=06fcaab7-dcc9-466b-b0c4-04db144bb601&displaylang=en (WM9 Codecs from microsoft)
Just search on google for xp codec pack download, or windows codec pack download. Myself I would download and install both of the above (the Microsoft one first to most likely resolve the problem) and then the other to add additional codecs.
