It is good to hear ( :-) . It was most likely a corrupted registry
(system registry) entry. And, since I do not have access to a machine
with the integrated SoundMax audio I would not have been able to get
you the
default registry entries.
Most likely it was a privilege for either a key or value
had gotten corrupted which would have meant that the driver was not
able to read the key or value. Normally this would have been resolved
by re-installing the driver but (in your case) if the privileges
within the
registry are corrupted then usually the only way to resolve (for most
people without in-depth knowledge/experience) is the way you
ended up taking.
Isn't it great how hind sight can find the problem!
