Are you saying that Apple's QT updater will update your computer when you 
have it set to "off" or just complaining that the default setting is "on."

The most coercive thing I've seen Apple do is not let you log into the 
Apple Store if you did not have one particular update. That update fixed 
a flaw in iTunes that allowed downloading all songs with the DRM removed. 
While I hate DRM I can accept that Apple had a legitimate reason for 
doing so.
