I think you need to reread the news story. This is not about what happens
to people who are set to accept automatic updates. This is about people
who have set their computers to "NO." The story says that MS is ignoring
the "NO" setting and modifying your computer anyway. To MS "NO" does not
mean no. (I guess this is not news.)

This is where my confusion lies: How do they put something on your machine when it's not even turned on? If it snuck in with the previous update installation, why did it not install right then? The install date was almost a week later than the previous update (which I had done manually).
