Apparently the claim is that MS is doing this in the middle of the
night.  I do not have auto updates turned on, yet when I look through
the log, the entry is there.  Mine happened on 8/24 at 9:35 in the
evening.  I was not even online that night (I do know that for sure).

I can see possibly sneaking something in with an update, but that
wasn't true in my case.  How could something like that happen when
the machine wasn't even turned on?  It was plugged into the cable
though.  Isn't a hardware firewall supposed to prevent things like
this from happening?

Sometimes I set updates to download but not install, then run them later. Maybe the stealth update on your computer is downloaded at one time and run later automatically. The firewall won't prevent downloading something when your system is set to allow it. I can set my computer to turn on automatically at a set time. Can XP do that?

Isn't Microsoft entertaining?
