If you shop around you can find replacement batteries for $20 to $30
depending on model. They are not all that hard to replace yourself. I
have seen offers to install for a $10 surcharge.

The new batteries have greater capacity so after replacement the iPod is
better than new. I replaced my battery once. The iPod I got in 2001 is
used almost every day and still works great. I have dropped it only a few
times.
